Watercolor sketches from my trips down the canal-

I've been biking and taking my paintbrush with me. Just the experience of being outside has been wonderful.

More about it on my blog:

Wow, looking at all of ur watercolor sketches here is such a treat....And I like the transparency of ur watercolors....Can I ask what brand or type of paper you used for these pieces??...:)

Thanks :) I love making them!
As for the paper? It's funny- I use the standard, crappy, strathmore sketchpads to sketch and paint in- when I buy fancy watercolor paper, I get too nervous about it to actually sketch freely :P

Do you tend to work in the watercolour first then add pen on top or create a sketch and add colour? Been trying to work it out from the artwork but it's a tough one. You've reminded me how to show such complex shapes with just a splash of shade and a few guidelines, one of my favourite styles of drawing!

thanks for asking!
I do the sketch in pen first, always, and then go in to add the watercolor washes :)

Ah yeah- I know! I've been using bic ballpoints of a certain type and they never smear with the watercolor!

The driftwood sketch is my favorite. They're all great though.
