Muties: The Angstling

Description

I know I've been out of contact for a little bit. I had a really pleasant Spring Break and now I'm back on the horse. This time it's the last leg of school! But more blather on my blog: [link]

This is this week's Cover to Cover class for Jon Foster. The assignment was to re-do the cover to the 1st issue of Marvel's "Muties". The story is of a Kid (Jared) who is picked on by the jocks and generally looked down upon until he snaps, comes into school shooting and it turns out the lead-jock is a mutant. So the kid is called a hero in the end because he winds up killing a mutant. Fun. :(

So I got to dig up the ol' high school angst for this one and decided the only thing I could get excited about AND do in one day was this yearbook cover (don't tell Jon that one-day thing). I'm actually not displeased with how it came out. The colors are ugly, but the book is ugly...so I don't mind.
I spent a lot of time coming up with the high school characters that weren't in the story...it was fun! I actually did full illustrations of each of them at 20x the size the appear here, so sizing them down and then degrading them to yearbook quality was a little upsetting. (Which is why the file is so big for display :p)

Anyways, it's very specific to the content of the book itself, but I figure I may as well show it around here, because I can't seem to stop myself uploading whatever it is I'm working on.
I am sitting on some really exciting sequential work that I'll chat up on my blog...but expect that to hit the web in the not-too-distant future.

Enjoy!

cool, I like the way the characters' faces are drawn here :) always had some problems with differentiating my characters and got stuck with 'this guy'll wear a black t-shirt and you people will recognise him by it!' method atm...
