I've been listening to Neil Gaiman's 'The Graveyard Book' while I drive...and I love it so far!
The Ghouls in particular, for whatever reason, captured my imagination- their absurd names and the way they were written...I somehow felt like I had to draw one. So I took a little break and I did!
It's just a simple monstery doodle- more of an exercise in technique than anything. I added my other color version because I still like it- I was working on the bottom one first, but then knocked it back to the top one because it felt more in-tone with the feeling from the book to me. Still- I like both versions.
I believe that Gaiman deliberately used the Jungle Book as his inspiration and adapted it to graveyard-type characters. You can find parallel characters for almost every Jungle Book character. But still enjoyable as-is.
I really like this and all the previous ones you've been posting these last days--they're great! I miss your beautiful lines though, and would love to see some more of that as well. Keep up the amazing work Nick!
Well thanks for saying so- I'm glad you like the new work. I'm trying to take on a new direction- I hope you don't miss the lines too badly! For the time being, I'm giving myself a break from lineart and trying to learn some new things and follow what is fun for me right now! Inking just isn't fun, after a point :/
